If you’re in the middle of venue searching, I want to save you some time. As a wedding photographer, I’ve had the privilege of working at some truly stunning locations across Colorado — and Pikes Peak Ranch in Woodland Park is one that I genuinely cannot recommend more.
So whether you’ve already heard of it or you’re coming across it for the first time, here’s an honest, behind-the-lens look at what makes this place so special.
The Setting Will Take Your Breath Away

I mean that almost literally. Pikes Peak Ranch sits on 160 acres of Rocky Mountain wilderness, surrounded by Pikes Peak, Sheep Nose Butte, and Thunder Butte, with sweeping valley views and national forest land as far as the eye can see.
From the moment you arrive, you understand why couples fall in love with this place. It feels completely removed from the everyday — no road noise, no neighboring buildings, just open sky and mountains in every direction. As someone who has photographed here, I can tell you that no matter where you stand on this property, you are standing in front of a beautiful backdrop.
That is partly because it is located a ways up a private road, well off of Westcreek Road (CR 78). It feels worlds away, and it is — that is the allure. Something to note, however, is that it due to its isolation there isn’t much cell service, so you’ll want to give very clear directions to all your guests who arrive in private cars. What you trade in connectivity, you win back in connection — it is remarkable how focused and present guests are when they don’t have easy access to the internet! And for logistical necessities, of course, the venue has WiFi.

Your Ceremony Will Be Unforgettable
The hilltop ceremony site is something special. Elevated above the valley with 360-degree mountain views, it creates this incredible sense of being on top of the world — just you two and the people you love most, with the Rockies stretching out behind you.
Couples often tell me they were surprised by how present they felt during their ceremony here. There’s something about being so immersed in nature, completely away from the business of everyday life, that makes the moment feel even more meaningful. Beyond the incredible feeling, the photographs from this location are hard to beat.
For a ceremony location as striking as this one, it’s also notable that it is remarkably easy to access. Your guests will be dropped off right at the entrance to the site, and be able to walk on pavement to their seats. This is especially helpful for guests in wheelchairs, walkers and strollers.

Golden Hour Here Is Unlike Anything Else

If you’re a couple who cares about beautiful wedding images, you need to know about golden hour at elevation. The light at Pikes Peak Ranch during that last hour before sunset is very hard to find anywhere but the Rockies. Warm, glowing, and absolutely magical — with layers of atmosphere and landscape as the backdrop of every sweet moment.
The property gives us so many options for your portrait session — open meadows, dramatic ridgelines, the treeline, rocky outcroppings — each with a completely different mood and feel. We’ll never be scrambling to find a good spot.
We took these photos during dinner at sunset. The fact that we could just walk a few yards away from their bustling dinner tables and get these elopement-worthy mountain portraits is what makes this place so special.

The Venue Itself Is Beautiful Inside and Out
Beyond the scenery, the venue is wonderfully designed for a wedding day to actually flow well — which matters more than couples often realize. The 2,700 square foot reception hall has floor-to-ceiling doors that open onto a 3,000 square foot patio, so the mountains are never far from view even when you’re inside celebrating with your guests.
The two getting-ready suites — the Pikes Peak Suite and the Woodland Suite — are a highlight I always mention to couples. They’re spacious, beautifully appointed, and have a good amount of natural light. Your morning will feel calm and unhurried, and yes, they photograph beautifully too. The walls have a beautiful plastered appearance, giving your getting ready portraits old world vibes, while also being a comfortable space to hang before the ceremony.

The Weekend Experience Is What Sets It Apart
Here’s what I think makes Pikes Peak Ranch truly unique: it’s not just a venue, it’s a full weekend. Six private cabins are nestled across the property, each with mountain views, hot tubs, and all the amenities you’d want. Your closest people can stay right on-site, which creates this relaxed, connected atmosphere that you simply can’t manufacture.
So often in wedding consultations, I hear from couples that they are looking for a full weekend experience and a place where they can gather friends coming from across the country or beyond. This is that place.
In my experience, when a couple and their guests are all together, unhurried, in a beautiful place for a whole weekend — it shows. In the dancing, in the laughter, in the quiet moments between people. Those are the images that end up meaning the most years from now.
In the wedding featured here, the couple was from New York, and they had friends and family from all over — California, France and even Romania! It certainly was a special place to convene.

The Team Genuinely Cares
Owners Jack and Mariah live close to the property and are involved every step of the way. A well-run venue means a well-run wedding day, and I’ve always felt that working with the team at Pikes Peak Ranch. When couples feel taken care of, they’re relaxed — and relaxed couples make for the most beautiful, authentic photographs.
